But now, you probably have heard of the KonMari Method of tidying up your clothes, kitchen, and garage.
The Japanese author “Spark Joy” and “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying up,” Marie Kondo introduced this method of tidying wherein you discard items that do not “spark joy.” This has been proved effective by many people in tidying up their home. In her show on Netflix, you can see each family clean mountain of items in their rooms and more than half of it are discarded or given to charity. In that show, she demonstrates techniques on how to fold your clothes, an easy way to identify your kitchen utensils, and organizing your garage by separating each item accordingly.
How do we start the KonMari Method? The KonMari Method simply tells you which items to keep and which ones are to be thrown out. To start this method, you should make a big pile of everything you have in your garage. You may put them on your driveway or pile them up inside the garage.
Next thing to do is to separate each item by distinct category such as:
- Items that are broken- you can place them in the trash especially if there are rusts and dust or bite marks from rodents.
- Miscellaneous Necessities- this is the largest category since it can be any random tools, types of equipment, pieces of furniture, recreational items, and chemicals.
- Sentimental items- this can be old photos, souvenirs, and holiday decors that have significant value and meaning.
In picking and separating the items, you should choose items that spark joy for you and of course, most items in your garage doesn’t spark joy since they may be rusty, dusty, or they’re not useful anymore. In KonMari Method, if the item you chose doesn’t spark joy, you thank it and put it in a pile where you can donate them, throw them, or sell them. By going through every item, you should finally finish separating them and start organizing them.
Organizing them should be an easy job since most of the things are thrown out, donated, or for sale. The pictures that you have retrieved can be put in an album or frames and the souvenirs and holiday decors can be kept and put out when the holiday arrives. Another tip from Marie Kondo is an easy way to find your item is by putting them in a transparent container or Tupperware. In this way, you can choose which container to grab and avoid. This method also prevents you from disorganizing your items and piling them back again.
Cleaning up after your mess is not easy. But now that we know the KonMari Method of tidying up things we can easily clean up our garage and brighten our mood with a clean surrounding upon leaving and arriving from work or school
